SevereWXWarn’s 2016 Hurricane Season Prediction

The 2016 hurricane season will be upon us in the next couple of months and we have been analyzing the climate models to get an indication of what to expect during this hurricane season. The average number of storms during a period of the last 30 years is shown below:

Avg Named Storms – 12

Avg. Hurricanes – 6

Avg. Major Hurricane – 3

Over the last few years we have been in somewhat of a drought with below average numbers and last year proved to be the same, but this year could change that trend.  Waters in the Atlantic ocean are already above average this year and that trend will likely stay in place throughout the duration of 2016, with the exception of the waters off the New England coast.  Looking at the long range forecast for wind shear in the Atlantic region also shows a conductive environment for hurricanes as well.  Throughout the 2016 season the trend is showing shear to be average to below average.  With all of that in mind below are our predictions for the 2016 hurricane season:

2016 Predicted Named Storms – 15

2016 Predicted Hurricanes – 8

2016 Predicted Major Hurricanes – 4

That’s right!  We are predicting a slightly above average year for hurricanes due to high sea surface temperatures and average to below average wind shear in the lower Atlantic region.  We offer a free Atlantic Hurricane Tracking App on on Android and Apple, so be sure to download it ahead of the 2016 season for apple by clicking here and android by clicking here.
