Tropical Storm Earl Forms in Caribbean Sea

Tropical Storm Earl has officially formed in the Caribbean Sea and will be the 5th named storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season.  Earl will not likely be any threat to the U.S. and will likely impact Belize this week.  As of 11 a.m. this morning Earl has winds of near 45 mph and will likely peak around 55-65 mph before reaching land.  The impacts to South America will likely include heavy downpours, flooding, storm surge and wind damage.  This system will not likely reach category 1 hurricane strength, but it will be on the strong end of the scale for a tropical storm.  Below are some of the impacts of the storm.

Early Wednesday

On Wednesday the storm will likely skirt the coast of Honduras with winds near 60 mph, though the strongest winds will stay off shore.  The area can still expect heavy downpours and some tropical storm force winds.

Late Wednesday

During the afternoon on Wednesday the system will likely make landfall between 8 p.m. and midnight in Belize just north of Belmopan with winds near 65 mph.  Belize can expect tropical storm force winds along with flooding and storm surge.

Thursday & Friday

The storm will likely move into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday and slightly regain some strength before impacting Mexico on Saturday morning likely near Xalapa with winds near 45-50 mph.  Mexico can expect tropical storm force winds along with flooding and storm surge.

We will continually monitor this system throughout the coming days and will provide updates as needed.
