MOUNT MITCHELL NORTH CAROLINA BREAKS SNOWFALL RECORD

Mount Mitchell is the highest peak in North Carolina and the highest peak on the east coast.  Previously the record snowfall on the mountain was 50 inches, which was received in 1993.  That amount was surpassed over the weekend with 66 inches of snowfall.  This is a new record for the state of North Carolina and atop the peak of Mount Mitchell.  The peak of the mountain is 6,684 and at times the snowfall rates reached over 4-5 inches per hour, which is blizzard and whiteout conditions.  The storm brought over 2 feet of snow to many areas of the Mid-Atlantic states.  We began forecasting this system in the beginning of January and it has proved to be a historic system especially for the state of North Carolina.  To get future news on Severe Weather be sure to like us on Facebook.  Also be sure to download our Snowfall Forecast App on Android and Apple  Also for live radar and severe weather be sure to download our Storm Tracker App.
