Storm Off Southeastern Coast Could Become Tropical Storm

We have been monitoring a cluster of storms off the coast of the Southeastern US this week for possible tropical development. The storm is becoming more organized and currently has sustained winds near 30 mph. In order for this storm to be updated to a tropical in will need to have sustained winds of 39 mph, which will likely happen later today or early tomorrow. The main threats associated with this system will be some heavy downpours and rip currents for the coastal areas. Some ares of the coast could see 4-5 inches of rain locally from this system. The timing of this storm couldn’t be worse because it is the unofficial start of tourist season for the beaches on the east coast.  This system will likely begin to push rain bands on shore Saturday afternoon in the Carolinas and Georgia. The rain will continue through much of the weekend and into Monday. Be sure to download our Hurricane Tracker on Apple or Android devices or you can view it on your desktop on our site.
