Tropical Storm Matthew Forms In Atlantic Likely to Become Hurricane

Tropical Storm Matthew formed in the Atlantic Ocean earlier today and it currently has winds of near 60 mph.  Matthew is expected to become a hurricane later this week and will at least reach category 1 strength if not higher.  Matthew is currently moving west at 20 mph and is expected to make a hard northward turn over the weekend bringing it close to Jamaica early next week.  The long range forecast is still in the air and we will likely have a better idea of where this storm is headed by the weekend.  This storm could possibly have impacts on anywhere from the gulf states to the east coast late next week depending on the track of the storm.  We will have to wait to see how the models play out and what it looks like in the coming days before we have a definite idea of where this system is going.  The system currently has tropical storm force winds extending over 200 miles out from the center.  This storm will be something that everyone in the gulf states as well as the east coast will want to keep an eye on over the coming days.  We will be providing at least daily updates on the system, so be sure to check back often.
