Area in Atlantic Has 90% Chance of Developing into a Tropical System

An area in the Atlantic Ocean has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical system over the next 5 days. The tropical low is in the Mid-Atlantic and will likely develop into a tropical depression over the next 48 hours and could be a tropical storm by the weekend.  This system will likely be the 6th named storm of the 2016 hurricane season.  This system if named will be Fiona.  It’s to early to know for sure the intensity and track of this system, but looking at the current models this will not likely be a threat to the United States due to the more northerly steering currents currently in the Atlantic.  We will continue to monitor this system as well as another tropical wave that will be moving off the African coast this week.
