HURRICANE JOAQUIN IN THE ATLANTIC & COULD IMPACT NORTH CAROLINA & VIRGINIA

Hurricane Joaquin formed this morning and now packs sustained winds of 75 mph.  Joaquin is expected to strengthen over the next couple of days while taking a westerly course before turning  north and west later into the week.  The NHC currently has this storm track just off the coast of North Carolina and Virginia, but we believe this will likely take a more westerly course towards North Carolina and Virginia according to the model data that we studied this morning.  As always this is subject to change as landfall of this system if it happens would likely be 5-7 days away and would likely occur between Sunday and Tuesday depending on the speed and the track of the storm.  We will continually monitor this system as the week goes on.  Joaquin could possibly reach category 2 status this week as it continues to gain strength.  Joaquin is currently creating 5 foot seas and dropping rain at rates over 2 inches per hour, so the major factors with this storm could be flooding, storm surge and erosion to go along with possibly hurricane force winds.  Please be sure to like us on Facebook and check back frequently for the most recent update on this storm and more severe weather.  Also be sure to use the social media sharing buttons above to share this article with your friends and family to keep them weather aware.
