Possible Tropical Storm This Week off the Coast of The Carolina’s, Georgia & Florida

Hurricane season is still 3 weeks away and here we are at the beginning of May looking at the chance for a storm to develop off the coast of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.  Today as you can see from the model data below (provided by Allison House) the system is becoming more organized from the previous model runs.  The NWS is currently giving this a 60% chance of developing into a Tropical Depression over the next 48 hours, which I believe will do so.  The latest model runs basically show the system spinning off the coast of South Carolina over the next coming days before it finally begins to move north with the center of the storm moving in around the Myrtle Beach/Wilmington area. The current tracking of the storm will put the heaviest rain bands on the outer banks of NC Sunday through Tuesday before the storms exit the region.  Today the costal areas of NC and SC will start to be affected by the outer rain bands of the system bringing some heavy rain and some slight wind.  The winds with this system will likely be minimal (30-40mph) as it passes through the area over the weekend and into the beginning of next week.  We will provide an update on the system tonight at 6 unless there are no changes at which time we will update at 11 to reflect any changes.  Please like us on Facebook to stay current on this system and future systems.
